Science Alive is a student-run, not-for-profit organization based at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC. We provide opportunities for youth to explore science beyond the textbooks through hands-on, interactive discovery, which stimulates their interest and fosters confidence.
In the months of July and August, we are running summer camps on SFU Burnaby and SFU Surrey Campuses, and are looking for High School Student volunteers and instructors. Our Volunteer positions are open to Grade 9-12 students, and our High School Instructor positions are open to Grade 11-12 students. Volunteers would be assisting the University Instructors in simple class management, preparing materials for activities, and helping campers out in any way they can. High School Instructors would be taking on a bigger leadership role in the classrooms such as teaching the activities, as well as taking on a more active classroom management role. The High School Instructor position is a paid position. If you would like, you can apply at http://www.sciencealive.ca/volunteer/ by sending in an application, along with a cover letter and resume. If you volunteer at Burnsview, you might be eligible for the Burnsview Service Award. Ask Dr. Dean for more information, but please note that the Service Award Sheets are due to Dr. Dean by the end of May, 2016.

Chalmers Elementary PAC is planning our first Chalmers Elementary Family Fun Night on Tuesday, June 7th and we are in need of volunteers to man some of the stations and to make this a successful event. If you wish to volunteer at this event and/or have any questions, please contact Ranita Kajla at [email protected] or call at (604) 805-7286. Once you have been confirmed s a volunteer, you will be asked to attend and orientation session at the Chalmers Elementary gym on Thurday, June 2nd at 3:30 pm. If you are interested in doing your work experience at the Vancouver Aquarium please sign up for one of the Summer Youth Information Sessions (on either Tuesday, May 17th or Wednesday, May 18th, from 5:30pm-8:30pm) in order to apply for our summer programs.
At the information sessions, you will be able to hear in depth about the 3 different roles we are recruiting for and will also be asked to participate in a group screening process at that time. We therefore will not be accepting applications through our online volunteer impact database this round and instead you will have to register for one of these 2 information sessions via the Aquarium’s main work experience website (http://www.vanaqua.org/join/hands-on/work-experience ). Please be advised that this process means that we will be involving more participants in the Info Session than there are available positions. I hope to have a maximum of 120 students attend each information session, so please register for these sessions as soon as possible as spaces tend to get booked quickly. Please note that registration is not yet open, but will be live by May 9th, so check it regularly. Please keep an eye out as it will be opening very soon. NOTE: you will not be receiving a confirmation email about your attendance to the Info Session until May 12th. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS & ANSWERS!
